In the second part of our Crowd Racing Flashback series, we go back 10 months to February.

Born To Finish, Crowd Racing’s multiple race winning sprinter, notched up yet another success at Kempton Park on the 17th February 2018, thanks largely to a blistering turn of foot delivered in the final furlong.

Turning out just a week after a good second place finish at Lingfield Park, Born To Finish took on nine rivals over six furlongs in a class five handicap at Kempton. Raised a pound for that close second at the Surrey track, Born To Finish was giving away weight to all other horses, including triple previous course and distance winner Major Valentine.

Dougie Costello once again took the ride for the Jamie Osborne trained gelding and held Born To Finish up towards the rear of the field, in a race where they went a very decent gallop.

As the horses approached the final two furlongs, Born To Finish was still in the rear trio of the field, whilst Major Valentine hit the front under Josephine Gordon. Costello asked the gelding for an effort from the two furlong pole and Born To Finish quickened up well, but still had plenty to do.

Entering the final furlong, Born To Finish was still in midfield at best but was staying on far more strongly than any of its rivals. The horse burst through between those rivals in the final 150 yards and got up to beat Major Valentine by a neck at the post.

There was plenty to like about the speed and timing of Born To Finish’s late run to grab victory and the relatively narrow distance of the win perhaps doesn’t quite do the performance justice.

BTF ran to a Racing Post Racing of 85, at that stage this was the best rating of his career (BTF bettered this when finishing 2nd at Newcastle) and his official rating that day of 78 is the highest he has won a race off.

We have a limited number of shares available in BORN TO FINISH and 2019 promises to be a superb year for our hero. He has notched up 7 wins to date, and his form has shown he can win more. The main aim will be to get him towards the All-Weather Championships on Good Friday, but there will be plenty of excitement on that journey. While we will always strive to buy racehorses for our owners which will win races and increase in value, the costs involved in training and running a racehorse plus the relatively low levels of prize money in the UK, make showing an upside on the initial investment made by owners very difficult and somewhat rare.

Shares bought in horses via Crowd Racing, should always be viewed as a social investment with no expectation of any financial upside. We can guarantee you will love being involved and have some wonderful experiences but we cannot guarantee you will make money.
