The Detainee is a lightly-raced six-year-old who has only had twenty-eight races to date, winning three and earning ten place finishes. He is a big, strong racehorse, and has taken some time to grow into himself and mature but is now thriving and his confidence is growing. His run at Chepstow in May was his career best on the flat, and was his first back after a minor wind operation.
The Detainee has only had 6 runs over hurdles and this is where his future lies, Neil is very excited about his potential over hurdles.
He will still have some runs on the flat, and his next run will be in July at Nottingham in a valuable series of races for middle distance horses, but the primary focus is on having a very strong hurdling campaign.
By Aqlaam out of a Jakarta Jade (x Royal Ajbar) The Detainee is rated 112 over hurdles, and ran to an excellent RPR (Racing Post Rating) when he came a very close 2nd at Perth.
Shares in The Detainee are superb value, and perfect for anyone interested in getting involved in racehorse ownership.
He is a beautiful racehorse, and has a great future ahead of him.
TOP TRAINER, NEIL MULHOLLAND WILL CONTINUE TO SHAPE THE DETAINEE'S FUTURE
Neil is based at Conkwell Grange Racing Stables near Bath.
Born in 1980 Neil was brought up surrounded by a family that loved horses. His father Brian always had a horse in training and he loved to breed with his own mares to try and find that big race winner we are all looking for. Neil had a pony from my first memories, it was in his blood. At the age of 11 years old Neil started to ride out for Ian Duncan who was my local trainer based just a couple of miles away and at the age of 12 years old he wrote a secret letter to Aidan O’Brien who at the time was champion jumps trainer to ask him for some work experience. To his surprise, Aidan replied and Neil spent 6 years in total with him, the first 3 years part time when he was at school, the last 3 years full time to on his apprenticeship. Neil enjoyed every minute at Aidan’s and learned so much and it was there that he started his riding career and went on to ride about 120 winners, riding for a lot of great trainers on a lot of nice horses.
Neil was a journeyman jockey so had to work hard and ride for as many trainers as possible meaning he got to see a lot of different ways people train. In 2008 he took out his first trainer’s licence, with a brilliant first season, training 17 winners. In the past 5 years, Neil has gone from strength to strength with almost 300 winners over jumps and over 50 winners on the flat.
There have also been a combined 400+ placed horses and almost £2,500,000 in prize-money. A phenomenal return in such a short period of time and Neil is undoubtedly on the fastest rising stars in the UK training. Stable stars such as Carole's Destrier, Pilgrims Bay, Shantou Village, Walt, Dieg Man and Impulsive Star all grace the yard and will be the cornerstones of what promises to be another great season for the Mulholland team.
